As you're probably aware, Hurricane Ian hit the state of Florida pretty hard. Massive amounts of destruction and flooding. Lots of folks lost everything. Some lost their lives. Thankfully I live in Connecticut, however my family owns property in Florida. After the storm did it's thing I needed to head down to make sure it was still standing. (I hate flying, I just drive down in a couple of days every time like Jerry Seinfeld.) Man was it ever not a pretty scene. I mean, Florida is usually a complete and utter shithole but now it's just goddamn awful. Communities along the coast now look like District 9 minus the fookin' prawns. Thankfully my house is located a little further inland, though the damage was still pretty gnarl. What I had hoped was going to be a short few days round trip turned into a two week mission of damage assessment, filing preliminary claim paperwork with homeowner's insurance and trying to salvage whatever could be salvaged. The damage overall wasn't nearly as bad compared to those people who's entire houses were razed to the ground completely. Though it was still not good to say the least.

Anywho, I just got back home again today. There's still more to do but I've done just about all I can do at this point. It'll probably be another 6 months to a year or so before the insurance company pays out and we can start the real repair process. Fortunately I'm a very patient person. Right now I'm just happy no one I care about got killed by the wrath of mother nature. One thing I can say for certain though is that 2023 is going to be a good year to be a contractor in the state of Florida. If you know how to swing a hammer, head on down there. Guarantee there will be plenty of work for a good long while.

Sounds like incredible rough shit. I hope your family knows how hard you went through inspecting the house lol

Oh believe me they know. I made sure.
